Efforts to address the growing cancer epidemic in Africa are severely limited by the lack of a trained oncology workforce. Kenya has five oncologists. With donor investment, the American Cancer Society, in collaboration with the African Palliative Care Association, will establish the African Cancer Training Fund to assist ministries of health to train a comprehensive oncology workforce. The fund will identify institutions that can provide high-quality oncology training, match trainees with the appropriate training institutions and conver tuition, travel, housing costs, as well as stipends, for the trainees.
