Dr. Cherepanov does the crystallography for the project in which we are developing IN inhibitors. The overall goals of the IN project are to understand the mechanisms of drug resistance and to use this information to develop inhibitors that are broadly effective against WT and drug-resistant variants of IN. The following people are involved in the INSTI/IN project: Dr. Peter Cherepanov (Imperial College, London), who is the crystallographer; Dr. Terrence Burke, Jr. (NCI), who is the chemist; and Dr. Yves Pommier (NCI), who does the in vitro biochemistry. Our section conducts the assays that measure the ability of the compounds to inhibit WT and drug-resistant vectors and performs modeling of INSTIs in complexes with WT and drug-resistant HIV-1 IN.
