Prevention and early detection of breast cancer. Initial situation: Since 1999, the SDC has been supporting health sector reform in Kyrgyzstan, with emphasis on ensuring primary health care. Although poor people now have easier access to this care and overall medical care has improved, the number of women with breast cancer has risen sharply in recent years. This situation is explained by the fact that Kyrgyz women have so far hardly been sensitized to this disease. In addition, family doctors do not know women well. Objectives: The project aims to reduce mortality due to breast cancer. It aims to inform the population about this type of cancer, to ensure screening for the disease at an early stage, to improve treatment and to provide psychological care to women with the disease. Implementation: The Kyrgyz NGO Ergene collaborates with the National Center for Oncology (NOC) and the National Medical Institute for Professional Development and Continuing Education in Medicine (KSMIRCME). The latter provides continuing education for family physicians and midwives and sends specialized teams in senology to rural areas. The SDC is involved for two years in financing the project.. This project was identified by RTI International for their own research purposes and some fields do not align with The GO Map categories. End dates were estimated as one year after the start date. The Project Type "Research, Clinical" may not accurately describe this project's focus but was used for all RTI International's Global Noncommunicable Diseases Initiative projects added in June 2018. Specialties were not analyzed. All project funding was valued in 2015 USD.
