My research program studies chronic oral disease (COD) aetiology including oral cancer and inflammation, using epidemiological and life course approaches. The goal of this program is to better understand the causes of COD and their links with major chronic diseases and includes two major projects: 1) HeNCe Life, an international study, examines the role of life-course socioeconomic environments, infection (viral), behavioural and genetic factors in the development of cancer in the mouth, throat and larynx among Indians, Brazilians and Canadians; 2) QUALITY Cohort study investigates the associations between obesity and COD (gum diseases and dental caries) throughout childhood, adolescence and early adulthood.
