The Canadian Oxidative Stress Consortium (COSC) is the largest Canadian conference on Oxidative Stress, and it is held every two years. The event will be held at the University of Guelph, Ontario, from June 1st to 3rd, 2016. By hosting such collaborative ventures, we assure the growth of research and innovation in the many human diseases that oxidative stress affects including cancer, cardiovascular disease, aging-related diseases, arthritis, diabetes, neurodegeneration, stroke, sepsis, inflammation, spinal cord injury, etc. Created in 1999 through CIHR funds by Dr. Ashok Grover (McMaster University), the COSC consists of researchers from over 50 laboratories and over 20 universities in Canada. COSC creates an environment which initiates research collaborations and strengthens relationships between researchers, promotes and expands opportunities for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and facilitates ties with industry, Consortium members and non-profit agencies (Canadian Institutes of Health Research and other non-profit granting agencies). The University of Guelph is ideally situated in the heart of Southern Ontario, an international hub for health science research. COSC attracts over 200 scientists from across Canada and at least two international Keynote speakers (see preliminary program). The University of Guelph is uniquely positioned to host this meeting as it represents the intersection of health research, food for health initiative, and the agri-food industry. This will facilitate dissemination of information to multiple sectors.
